Start Anew
I hear the echoes of my pain in the winter, spring,
and summer rain.
I feel the pressures of each day,
as conflict churns to heart’s dismay…
Yet today seems bright and new -
Hope is drizzled on the morning dew.
Promise is perched across our land,
People once joined hand in hand…
Remember the times of peace and love?
Not riots and insurgence,
But goodness and hugs?
Today is a moment like none before,
Inhale in its legacy,
Embrace democracy,
Farewell to division and disbelief , to heartache and injustice,
and children raddled in grief…
Today I remember that goodness reigns supreme
And that the nation we aspire to be,
Is no longer a dream…
