We.
We are.
We are all part of the same human race,
So why is it that we deface, disgrace, and erase,
Innocent people who just try to keep peace,
This can’t be seen as a case by case issue,
It’s an issue that goes deeper than the tissue that we’re made of,
And all the way to the morals that we’re raised on,
And I know we all want to bring change on,
But how can we change what we’re trying to save face on?
So, yes.
I am the issue.
My mirrior is not broken for its reflection causing shame.
Whiteness - at rest - is acid and burns through pupils
with the painful presence of the past.
Which at present is much closer than “past” would convey.
As today,
unjust ideals of who people should be
See them wrongly arrested for the colors we perceive,
when the color that matters is what’s inside of you and me,
Because what ties us all together is the color that we bleed.
King didn’t give his life,
In 1968,
So that In 2020,
Kids would do the same,
End the inequality,
Stand up for a change,
King opened the book,
It’s time to turn the page.
